FoodCorps believes every school should be a healthy school and every child – regardless of race, place or class – deserves to be well nourished and ready to learn. In underserved communities across the country, we teach students about healthy food through hands-on lessons, partner with farmers and food service workers to create nutritious and delicious school meals, and collaborate with communities to insure a long-term culture of health. Building on this foundation of direct impact, FoodCorps pursues systemic strategies – like policy change, leadership development, and action-oriented networks – that will benefit all of our nation’s 100,000 schools.
What We’re Looking For:
FoodCorps is seeking an Alumni Community Manager to foster a sense of community with purpose across FoodCorps’ alumni network. The Alumni Community Manager will set and implement the strategy for engaging 900+ FoodCorps alumni across the nation through career development offerings, communications, policy engagement, giving, and more. FoodCorps believes that our alumni, through the careers and community work they pursue, are one of our strongest assets in ensuring that all children have access to healthy food every day. Thus, this position is tasked with planning and implementing a career development framework to ensure that both FoodCorps alumni and current service members are equipped to become leaders in fields relevant to FoodCorps’ work. The Alumni Community Manager’s main focus will be crafting strategy, planning events, developing communications, providing individual counseling and managing projects across departments. The Alumni Community Manager is nested within the Strategy & Partnerships department, but works closely with FoodCorps’ Programs and Talent & Culture teams.
Who You Are:
You are passionate about the mission of FoodCorps and believe in the power of people and networks to create systems change. You are a highly motivated self-starter who thinks big and has the strategic and operational vision to create solid plans and build forward momentum. You are an experienced project manager who can organize diverse groups of stakeholders to make your vision a reality. You are comfortable juggling multiple projects, working autonomously, and motivating teams of volunteers. You have strong written and verbal communications skills which you feel at home using to develop online content, facilitate remote meetings, lead in-person trainings and speak in front of rooms full of people. You are highly organized and able to stay on top of multiple concurrent timelines and deadlines. You are always seeking new and creative solutions to problems and are able to both manage ongoing projects and develop new ideas and visions.
You are deeply invested in developing leaders who are equipped to make an impact in fields such as education, public health, policy, agriculture, nonprofit management and school food. You have experience in or interest in learning about these fields. You are a connector who naturally brings people together and is passionate about building purposeful communities of trust. You really care about people and helping them find their paths in life. You bring a strong equity lens to your work, ensuring that the projects you manage (and the way in which you manage them) are inclusive, expansive, and available to all.
Work closely with Associate Director of Training to build career development strategies to support service members and alumni in their professional growth and build leaders in fields that are strategically important to FoodCorps.
Plan and implement online and in-person training events to implement career development strategy.
Work closely with Policy Director and Advocacy Manager to develop build alumni advocacy skills and opportunities
Lead annual alumni survey process in partnership with Data & Impact Team to collect information about alumni careers and better understand their needs.
Manage and consistently update database of 900+ alumni records.
Deliver regular written communications through newsletters, monitoring social media accounts, updating the FoodCorps website, and managing online alumni and service member portal.
Connect alumni to employment opportunities through making consistent updates to the alumni jobs boards.
Manage the Alumni Council to build a valuable leadership development experience for participants and ensure their meaningful contributions to Alumni Program goals, including managing our Alumni Grant program, selecting our annual Alumni Service Leadership awardee, stewarding our local Alumni Chapters and building creative and personal communications channels to keep alumni connected.
Partner with FoodCorps fundraising team to create and execute alumni giving campaigns.
Increase numbers and value of partnerships with mission-aligned academic institutions and organizations through the FoodCorps Employer Circle and tuition remissions.
Facilitate and create opportunities for alumni and service members to provide feedback to shape Alumni Program Strategy.
Hone and implement Alumni Program’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion platform to ensure that all alumni, regardless of their location, race or education status, have equal access to FoodCorps resources and chance to benefit from what we offer.
Build loyalty and goodwill towards FoodCorps by ensuring that all service members and alumni feel supported in their careers
Skills and Experiences of the Ideal Candidate:
Demonstrated experience developing and executing program strategy
Experience in some of the targeted career fields of interest (education, policy, nonprofit management, local food systems, school food, public health & nutrition)
Experience planning events, managing event logistics, developing content & facilitating groups
Strong project management experience coordinating initiatives across multiple departments
Familiarity with Salesforce, Microsoft Office, Google platforms, Slack
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Intellectual curiosity and ability to think outside of the box
Self-directed and flexible, and excels in maintaining one’s own motivation
Commitment to building inclusive programs that celebrate the diversity of our network
Minimum four years professional work experience, with increasing levels of management and responsibility
Experience serving in an AmeriCorps or VISTA program, FoodCorps alums preferred

FoodCorps pays salaries that are competitive with nonprofits of our budget size and geographic location, and offers generous vacation and medical benefits, 401(k) matching, professional development funds and a sabbatical policy. This position is a Manager level role with a salary range starting at $47,000.00. While this position in located in Portland, OR, we are open to applicants in other locations. Please be advised the starting salary listed is based on work in Portland, OR and is subject to change based on location.
