What We’re Looking For:

FoodCorps seeks a highly motivated doer who will work as part of the Marketing and Communications team to engage audiences by telling FoodCorps’ story, sharing our mission on social media and leading analytics efforts.  This role will be responsible for elevating FoodCorps presence and brand within the food and school food space on social channels.

This position reports to the VP of Marketing and Communications.  This is a full-time position, located in FoodCorps’ New York City office. Occasional travel required.

You are building your career as a communications expert, with a strong desire to grow your skills in all areas of communications and marketing. You love staying current with the latest news, trends and technology. You are a self-starter, a great communicator, and are both design and detail-oriented. Writing is one of your strongest assets and you have experience with both print and/or web. You have experience managing social media and websites, and a strong interest in exploring how digital technologies can engage audiences and help a nonprofit organization accomplish its goals. You are comfortable working in a fast-growing, high-paced work environment. Recognizing and avoiding high-risk or inflammatory communications is one of your superpowers. You have a commitment to diversity and inclusion with a desire to work for health equity and social and racial justice, and are committed to integrating these values into the messages and materials you create.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the VP of Marketing and Communications and the Content Manager to build a strategy to acquire and retain social media followers

  • Plan and manage social media implementation across multiple channels and multiple target audiences

  • Engage with FoodCorps social media audience

  • Align social campaigns with organizational brand strategy, and create social media outreach around fundraising and messaging/awareness campaigns and special events

  • Write and design creative assets for at least three (3) large-scale online fundraising campaigns (Giving Tuesday, Calendar Year-End, Spring T-shirt campaign) plus an annual service member recruitment push and frequent advocacy campaigns

  • Manage analytics measurement and tracking for organization's social media presence, and make recommendations based on data to grow our digital reach, maximize use of our assets and increase engagement on existing and new channels

  • Identify trending topics in the press, social media, and popular culture relevant to FoodCorps and tap into them to build brand awareness

  • Help to train FoodCorps service members and staff on successful management of local social media channels and blogging

  • Provide additional help as needed on all communications projects


Skills of the Ideal Candidate:

  • 1-3 years experience running professional social media platforms and monitoring analytics

  • Experience managing a brand's social media presence across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram

  • Experience with Wordpress and/or basic HTML/CSS coding and troubleshooting

  • Familiarity with using Salesforce or similar database a plus

  • Experience with SEO, Google AdWords and an understanding of online measurement platforms and tools

  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to produce original, clear, concise content for web and print within tight deadlines; attention to detail

  • Intellectual curiosity about, understanding of and enthusiasm for the work of FoodCorps, with an interest in food, health, education, agriculture, and/or national service

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a very collaborative team;

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders and meet deadlines

  • Knowledge of graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite a must

  • Experience with and interest in inclusive, equitable communications that increase the diversity of our audiences

FoodCorps pays salaries that are competitive with nonprofits of our budget size and geographic location, and offers generous vacation and medical benefits, 401(k) matching, professional development funds and a sabbatical policy. This position is a Coordinator role with a salary range beginning at $45,000 per year.
