Network Director, Healthy School Meals Initiative
Who We Are:
FoodCorps believes every school should be a healthy school and every child – regardless of race, place or class – deserves to be well nourished and ready to learn. In underserved communities across the country, we teach students about healthy food through hands-on lessons, partner with farmers and food service workers to create nutritious and delicious school meals, and collaborate with communities to insure a long-term culture of health. Building on this foundation of direct impact, FoodCorps works on systemic strategies that will benefit all of our nation’s 100,000 schools.
What We’re Looking For:
FoodCorps is seeking a strategy-minded Network Director who will work full-time building and managing an impact-oriented cohort of progressive, forward-thinking stakeholders dedicated to improving the health and quality of school meals. The Network Director for FoodCorps’ Healthy School Meals Initiative will be responsible for delivering aligned-action impact across three overlapping network groups that will execute strategies aimed at breaking down the most critical barriers in serving healthy, delicious, high quality food to students in school:
A dynamic cohort of school food service directors seeking peer-to-peer learning, professional development, and values-aligned best practices
A multi-sector leadership group representing industry, government, philanthropy, school food, and field experts committed to activating change in the school food space
A series of targeted task forces made up of members of both groups
The Network Director will recruit network members, develop program and action plans to meet network membership needs and goals, build the communication systems necessary for effective collaboration, and marshal internal and external resources to support task force priorities. This position will play a critical role in advancing the health of school meals in many of the nation’s largest school districts.
The Network Director will report initially to FoodCorps’ Chief Strategist, with reporting transitioning to a Senior Director, Healthy School Meals Initiative in time. This is a full-time position. Travel is required (~10-20%). Candidates based in Portland, OR or New York City preferred. Other locations considered on a case-by-case basis.
Who You Are:
You are passionate about the mission of FoodCorps and familiar with both the supply and demand side of school food. You are a highly motivated self-starter who thinks big and has the strategic and operational vision to create solid plans and build forward momentum. You are comfortable juggling multiple projects and tight deadlines and are at home both in the details of procurement, the ambiguity of political advocacy, the nuances of partnership building, and the stewardship of fundraising. You are interested in the overlapping areas of business, government, education, and policy that make-up the world of school food, and you bring a pragmatic approach to making change within a complex system. You are an exceptionally clear and concise communicator and can easily translate information across multiple audiences and via multiple channels. You leave no stone unturned in your work, always seeking new and creative solutions to multi-sector problems. You are committed to diversity and inclusion, with a passion for social justice, and an enthusiasm for operating in an intercultural work environment.
