Senior Director, Healthy School Meals Initiative

What We’re Looking For:
FoodCorps is seeking a strategy-minded Senior Director who will work full-time leading FoodCorps’ innovative new Healthy School Meals Initiative. The Senior Director will oversee the design, launch, and operations of FoodCorps’ Healthy School Meals Network Program, Healthy School Meals Leadership Program, and related strategies. Working closely with school district leadership, government, business, philanthropy, and field experts nationwide, the Senior Director will be the public face for this exciting new initiative. The Senior Director will be responsible for hiring and supervising a team of staff and will work closely and collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that the programs are well integrated into existing organizational goals and priorities. Initially, the Senior Director will be charged with rolling up their sleeves to develop the architecture and infrastructure for the Healthy School Meals Leadership Program, while supervising a Director-level report that will oversee the development of the Network Program. The Senior Director will be responsible for the development of evaluation, benchmarking, and accountability structures for the initiative, delivering maximum impact to participants and beneficiaries. This position will play a critical role in advancing the health of school meals in across the country.
The Senior Director, Healthy School Meals Initiative will report to FoodCorps’ SVP and Chief Strategist. This is a full-time position. Travel is required (~10-20%). Candidates based in Portland, OR or New York City preferred. Other locations considered on a case-by-case basis.

You are passionate about the mission of FoodCorps and have experience working on both the supply and demand side of school food. You have demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, with a track record of overseeing high-impact and well-regarded programming. You are an entrepreneurial self-starter, with both strategic vision and a practical approach. You excel at building trusting relationships across sectors, and are just as at home in the school cafeteria as in the halls of Congress or the corporate Boardroom. You are dedicated to improving the health of school meals nationwide, using systemic strategies, outside-of-the-box solutions, and creative partnerships to accomplish this goal. You can’t help but motivate those around you and have received accolades for your management and supervisory skills. Lead FoodCorps’ Healthy School Meals Initiative, including launching our Healthy School Meals Network and Leadership programs
Developing the programmatic structure for the Leadership Program directly and supervise the Network Director, who will lead development of the Network Program
Collaborate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to implement all elements of programming, and ensure they are well integrated into FoodCorps’ existing operations
Hire and lead a team of motivated, skilled, creative staff
Build trusting, long-term, mutually-beneficial, and accountability-focused relationships with all program stakeholders
Act as the key point person internally for the Healthy School Meals Initiative, and represent the Initiative externally to funders and the field
Support FoodCorps’ Marketing & Communications team and Growth & Development teams in marketing and funding the Initiative
Additional responsibilities will be collaboratively developed as the program is launched
Skills of the Ideal Candidate:
Demonstrated experience developing and executing impact-oriented, systems change strategies
Demonstrated experience leading teams of high-level direct reports
Demonstrated multi-sector partnership management experience, with a special focus on school-oriented partnerships
Demonstrated experience managing funder relationships
Experience in start-up environments or experience building new organizational initiatives
Experience with school food procurement and familiarity with food service operations and policies, including local and regional sourcing
Systems-minded, approaching organizational development with an entrepreneurial eye
Process-oriented with a strong ability to build efficient systems for information management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Intellectual curiosity and ability to think outside of the box to efficiently solve complex problems
Comfortable with an organizational environment that is fast-paced with an emphasis on technology and collaboration amongst geographically distributed staff and partners
Self-directed and flexible, and excels in a deadline-driven environment
Bachelor’s degree or two additional years of experience in lieu of a degree is required
Minimum 10 years professional work experience, with increasing levels of management and responsibility

FoodCorps pays salaries that are competitive with nonprofits of our budget size and geographic location, and offers generous vacation and medical benefits, 401(k) matching, professional development funds and a sabbatical policy. This position is a Senior Director level role with a salary range starting at $110,000. Salary is commensurate with experience and will be adjusted for geography as appropriate.
